ಭಾರತೀಯರಾದ ನಾವು ಈ ವರ್ಷ ವನ್ನು ಮರೆಯಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ? “Sisters and Brothers of America” ಎಂಬ ಮೊದಲ ಉದ್ಗಾರದಲ್ಲೇ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿವೇಕಾ ನಂದರು ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದ ವರ್ಷವದು. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಅಮೆರಿಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಮಾತಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತು ಆ ಭಾಷಣ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಂಘ-ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮುಗಿಬಿದ್ದು ಭಾಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಆಹ್ವಾನ ನೀಡಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿದವು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ವಿಶ್ವಧರ್ಮ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ಮುಗಿದ ನಂತರವೂ ಅವರು ಕೆಲಕಾಲ ಅಮೆರಿಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಜನರಿಗೆ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರನ್ನು ವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋಲಿಸಿ ಬಿಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಹಠ ಬಂದುಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯಾನಿಟಿಯೇ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಎಂದು ಸಾಬೀತುಪಡಿಸುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂದೂಧರ್ಮದ ಅವಹೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ್ದರು. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವೊಂದರಲ್ಲೂ ಹಾಗೇ ಆಯಿತು. ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ನಿಂತ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಕಾಲ ವಾಗ್ಝರಿಯನ್ನು ಹರಿಸಿ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದವರಿಗೆಲ್ಲ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಿದರು.

ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಜನ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀರಿ?

ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಜನ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ಆ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೈಮೇಲೇರಿದ್ದು ಒಂದಿಬ್ಬರದ್ದು ಮಾತ್ರ! ನಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಒಂದಿನಿತೂ ಓದಿ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಮೌಢ್ಯ, ಮೂಢನಂಬಿಕೆ, ಗೊಡ್ಡುಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿರುವ ಅನಾಗರಿಕ ಧರ್ಮಎಂದು ಅವಹೇಳನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀರಲ್ಲಾ ನಿಮಗೆಷ್ಟು ಧಾರ್ಷ್ಟ್ಯ?! ಎಂದು ತರಾಟೆಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಡೀ ಸಭೆಯೇ ಮೂಕವಿಸ್ಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬ್ರಿಟನ್‌ಗೆ ಬಂದರು.

ಹತ್ತಾರು ಭಾಷಣ, ಸಂವಾದ, ಚರ್ಚಾಕೂಟಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲೂ ಆಹ್ವಾನ ಬಂತು. ಹಾಗೊಂದು ಚರ್ಚೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಕಟು ಟೀಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅದನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರು ಸಿಡಿಮಿಡಿಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೇನಂತೆ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಮಾತ್ರ ಟೀಕಾಪ್ರಹಾರವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗೆ ಟೀಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಮಾತಿನ ಮಧ್ಯೆ, “ಆದರೂ ನಾನು ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ ರಾಣಿಯ ವಿಧೇಯ ಪ್ರಜೆ” ಎಂದುಬಿಟ್ಟರು!!

ಮೊದಲೇ ಕುಪಿತಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರಿಗೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದಂತಾಯಿತು. “ಇದುವರೆಗೂ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಸರಕಾರವನ್ನು ಭಾರೀ ಭಾರೀ ಟೀಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಿರಲ್ಲಾ, ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ನಾನು ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ ರಾಣಿಯ ವಿಧೇಯ ಪ್ರಜೆ ಎಂದಿದ್ದೇಕೆ? ಭಯವಾಯಿತೇ?!” ಎಂದು ಕಿಚಾಯಿಸಿದರು. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ನಿರುತ್ತರರಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅವಮರ್ಯಾದೆಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಭಾವಿಸಿದರು. ಹಸನ್ಮುಖಿಯಾಗಿಯೇ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಬಾಯಿ ತೆರೆದರು…

“ನೋಡಿ, ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ ರಾಣಿ ವಿಕ್ಟೋರಿಯಾ ವಿಧವೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಭಾರತ ದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಧವೆಯರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇವೆ” ಎಂದರು!

ಗಪ್ಪಾಗುವ ಸರದಿ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರದ್ದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಬರೀ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ, ಹಿಂದೂಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡಲು ಅವತರಿಸಿ ಬಂದ ಮಹಾಪುರುಷ, Messiah ಮಾತ್ರ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಬೇಡಿ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಹಾಸ್ಯಪ್ರeಯೂ ಇತ್ತು, Presence of Mind ಅಂತಾರಲ್ಲಾ ಅದಂತೂ ಅದ್ಭುತ. ಗಂಭೀರವಾದ, ಅವಹೇಳನಕಾರಿಯಾದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳು, ಟೀಕೆಗಳು ಎದುರಾದಾಗಲೂ ಕೋಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ತುಂಬಾ witty ಆಗಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ನಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ನಿರರ್ಗಳವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಚಕಿತರಾಗಿ ಮಾತು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಫಿರಂಗಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಕಾಲೆಳೆಯಲು ಹವಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ.

ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ: Just Arms difference!

ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದ ಫಿರಂಗಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರಿಂದ ಸರಿಸುಮಾರು ಮೊಳಕೈ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ!! ಹಾಗಂತ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಹಾಸ್ಯ ದಲ್ಲೇ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಿ ದ್ದರು ಎಂದರ್ಥವಲ್ಲ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಹೀಗೂ ಆಯಿತು. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಬುದ್ಧನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಪಾರ ಗೌರವ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಇಂಗ್ಲೆಂಡ್ ಪ್ರವಾಸದ ವೇಳೆ ಭಾಷಣ ವೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬುದ್ಧನ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೇ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು, ಬಹುವಾಗಿ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇದನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷನೊಬ್ಬ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ-ಬುದ್ಧ ಅಷ್ಟು ಗ್ರೇಟ್, ಇಷ್ಟು ಗ್ರೇಟ್ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀರಲ್ಲಾ, ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಮಹಾನ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಬ್ರಿಟನ್‌ಗೆ ಬಂದುಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬುದ್ಧ ಗ್ರೇಟ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದನೆನ್ನುವುದಾದರೆ ಆತನೇಕೆ ಬ್ರಿಟನ್‌ಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ಕೊಡಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ?!

ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ: ಬುದ್ಧ ಬದುಕಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಿನ್ನ ಯುರೋಪ್ ಎಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು? ನಿನ್ನ ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ ಎಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು? ಅಮೆರಿಕವೆಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು?!

ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ತಪರಾಕಿ ಬೇಕೆ?! ಬುದ್ಧ ಅವತರಿಸಿದ್ದು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ ಪೂರ್ವ ದಲ್ಲಿ. ಆಗ ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ನೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಯುರೋಪೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಅಷ್ಟೇಕೆ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯಾನಿಟಿಯೇ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ!! ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಜತೆ ಬ್ರಿಟನ್‌ಗೂ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ಸಿಸ್ಟರ್ ನಿವೇದಿತ ಎಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಭಾವಿತಳಾಗಿದ್ದಳೆಂದರೆ, ನಾನೂ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇಶಸೇವೆಗೆ ನಾನೂ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದಳು. “ನೋಡು…ಇತರ ಧರ್ಮಗಳ ಕಟ್ಟುಪಾಡುಗಳು, ಕಟ್ಟಳೆಗಳು ಅಷ್ಟಾಗಿ ತಾರ್ಕಿಕವಾಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ವಿeನಕ್ಕೆ ಹತ್ತಿರವಾಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಮೊದಲು ಪರಾಮರ್ಶೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ನಂತರ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ಆದರೆ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ರೀತಿ ರಿವಾಜುಗಳು ತರ್ಕಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ, ವಿeನಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡು ಅನುಸರಿಸಬೇಕು, ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಆ ಕಟ್ಟುಪಾಡುಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇರುವ ತರ್ಕ, ಆಶಯ ಅರಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪಾಶ್ಚಿಮಾತ್ಯಳಾದ ನೀನು ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ನಂತರ ಅದೇಕೆ, ಇದೇಕೆ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲೇ ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಬೇಡ” ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ- Anything that is western origin, first you verify it, then accept it. Anything that is Indian origin, first accept it, then verify it if necessary.

ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಬಲವಾದ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿತ್ತು.

ನೀವು ರೋಮಿ ರೋಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್(Romain Rolland) ಹೆಸರು ಕೇಳಿರಬಹುದು. ಆತ ಫ್ರೆಂಚ್ ನಾಟಕಕಾರ, ಇತಿಹಾಸಕಾರ, ಕಾದಂಬರಿಕಾರ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಈ ರೋಮಿ ರೋಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಹಾಗೂ ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಟಾಗೋರ್ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚೂಕಡಿಮೆ ಸಮಕಾಲೀನರು. ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ್ ಟಾಗೂರರಿಗೆ 1913ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರ ದೊರೆತರೆ, ರೋಮಿ ರೋಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್ 1915ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪಡೆದವರು. ಇಂತಹ ದಿಗ್ಗಜರ ಭೇಟಿ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನನಗೆ ಭಾರತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ರೋಮಿ ರೋಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. “If you want to know India, study Vivekananda. In him everything is positive, nothing negative” ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಟಾಗೂರ್!! ರೋಮಿ ರೋಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್‌ಗೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಬರುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾಷಣ, ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳಿದ್ದಿದ್ದು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಅಕ್ಕನಿಂದ ಓದಿಸಿ, ಹೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಂತಹ ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತನೇ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಸಮ್ಮೋಹಿತನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆಂದರೆ, “The Life of Vivekananda and The universal Gospel” ಎಂಬ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ. “I look upon Swamy Vivekananda as a fire of spiritual energy” ಎಂದು ತನ್ನ ಮೇಲಾದ ಪ್ರಭಾವವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಅಂತಹ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಜನಿಸಿದ ನಾಡು ನಮ್ಮದು.

ನಾವು ಆಗಾಗ ಉದಾಹರಿಸುವ Indianness, ಭಾರತೀಯತೆ ಎಂಬ ಕಾನ್ಸೆಪ್ಟ್ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ. ಅವರನ್ನು “ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ರಾಯಭಾರಿ” ಎಂದು ಸುಖಾಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯ, ರಾಜಾರಾಮ್ ಮೋಹನ್ ರಾಯ್ ಮುಂತಾದವರೂ ದೇಶ ಸುತ್ತಿ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ತರಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸಿದರಾದರೂ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹಿರಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟ ಮೊದಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ. ಯಾವ ಧರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನೂ ತೆಗಳದೆ ಆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಇನ್ನೂ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಾಧನೆ. ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರಿಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಯಾರೂ ಕೂಡ ವಿದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಚಾರ, ಪ್ರಸಾರ ಮಾಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನ ಶಿಷ್ಯಂದಿರು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರೇ ಹೊರತು ಬುದ್ಧನೂ ಕೂಡ ಹೊರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ದೇಶ ಸುತ್ತಿದರೇ ಹೊರತು ವಿದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದವರಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, He was the global face of India. He was the first Ambassador of modern India to the world ಎಂದು ಅನುಮಾನವೇ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು. ಅವರೊಬ್ಬ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ರಾಯಭಾರಿಯೂ ಹೌದು. ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯತೆ(ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲಿಸಂ) ಎಂಬ ಹೊಸ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೂ ಅವರೇ. ಬುದ್ಧನ ನಂತರ Indian ethos, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ದ ಹಾಗೂ ಅರಿವು ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ ಮೊದಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೂ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ. “Hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray” (ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುವ ತುಟಿಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೈಗಳೇ ಮೇಲು)- ಈ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ಗಾಂಧಿ ಎನ್ನುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಾ… ಅಲ್ಲಾ… ಮದರ್ ತೆರೇಸಾ ಎಂದು ಆಕೆಯ ತಲೆಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಸುಖಬೋಧಾನಂದ ಹಾಗೂ “ಯು ಕೆನ್ ವಿನ್” ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬರೆದ ಶಿವ ಖೇರಾ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಪದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೇ ವಾಕ್ಯವನ್ನು ರೀಸೈಕ್ಲ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೂ ಇದೆ. Make no mistake, ಆ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು! ತುಂಬ articulate ಆಗಿ, extempore ಆಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ನುಡಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಸುಪ್ರೀಂಕೋರ್ಟ್‌ನ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ತೀರ್ಪಿಗೂ ದಿಗ್ಜೋತಿಯಾಗಿವೆ. ಹೌದು, “Hinduism is not just a religion, it’s a way of life” (ಹಿಂದುತ್ವವೆಂಬುದು ಒಂದು ಧರ್ಮ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಜೀವನ ವಿಧಾನವೂ ಹೌದು) ಎಂದು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು, ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೂ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ ಅವರೇ. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅಲ್ಪಸಂಖ್ಯಾತರನ್ನು ಕಾಣಲು ಹಿಂದೂಗಳು ಬಹುಸಂಖ್ಯಾತರಾಗಿರುವುದೇ ಕಾರಣ. ಹಿಂದೂಯಿಸಂ ಎಂಬುದು ಧರ್ಮಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಅದೊಂದು ಸ್ಪಿರಿಚ್ಯುಯಾಲಿಟಿ ಎಂದವರು ಅವರು. ಸ್ಪಿರಿಚ್ಯುಯೆಲ್ ಅಂದರೆ ತನ್ನ ಹಿತವೇ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಆಲೋಚನೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಇತರರ ಶ್ರೇಯೋಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೂ ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು. ಅವತ್ತು ವಿಶ್ವಧರ್ಮ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯತೆ, ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹಿರಿಮೆ, ಸಹಿಷ್ಣುತೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಆಡಿದ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ “ನ್ಯೂಯಾರ್ಕ್ ಟೈಮ್ಸ್” ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ತನ್ನ ಮರುದಿನದ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ “Church should be ashamed for sending its preachers to India…” ಎಂದು ಬರೆದಿತ್ತು!!

ಹಾಗಂತ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರು ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಬರೀ ರೋಮ್ಯಾಂಟಿಸೈಝ್ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಹುಳುಕುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳಿದರು. “Hinduism should reform, if not it will collapse on its own weight” ಎಂದು ಅದರ ಲೋಪಗಳನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿತೋರಿದರು. ಇವತ್ತು ಒಬ್ಬ ಸಮಾಜವಾದಿ, ಸಮತಾವಾದಿ ಕೂಡ ಅವರನ್ನು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಗಾಂಧಿಯನ್ನು ಟೀಕಿಸುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಆದರೆ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರನ್ನು ಟೀಕಿಸುವವರನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ. ಈಗೀಗ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಾರ್ಲಿಮೆಂಟನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಕೊಂಡು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಯೂತ್ ಪವರ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಯೂತ್ ಬಂದರೆ ಭಾರತ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವಿವೇಕಾ ನಂದರು 115 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆಯೇ ಯುವಶಕ್ತಿ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದರು. ಯೂತ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಯೌವನವಲ್ಲ, Free from prejudice, ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಒಳಿತನ್ನೂ ಬಯಸುವ ಮನಃಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಎಂದಿದ್ದರು.

1000 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಬಾಹ್ಯಶಕ್ತಿಗಳ ಆಕ್ರಮಣ, ಆಡಳಿತ, ನಮ್ಮ ಜನರ ಕಗ್ಗೊಲೆ, ಅತ್ಯಾಚಾರ, ಮತಾಂತರ… ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ತಡೆಯಲು ಒಂದು ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯ, ಒಬ್ಬ ಶಿವಾಜಿ, ಒಬ್ಬ ರಾಣಾ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್, ಒಬ್ಬ ಗುರು ಗೋವಿಂದ ಸಿಂಗ್, ದಯಾನಂದ ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ಅವತರಿಸಿ ಬಂದರು. ಅವರ ನಂತರ ಭಾರತದ Global face ಆಗಿ ಬಂದವರೇ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ. ಇಂತಹವರು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಬಂದ ಕಾರಣವೇ ಬಾಹ್ಯಶಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಭಾರತೀಯರನ್ನು ಕೊಂದರೂ ‘ಭಾರತೀಯತೆ’ಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸಲು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಜನವರಿ 12 ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಜನ್ಮದಿನ.

ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ ಅವತರಿಸಿ ಬರಲಿ ಎಂದು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಬದಲು ಅವರ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಂಡು, ಈ ದೇಶ, ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ನಾವೇ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಒಳಿತಲ್ಲವೆ?

    Swamy Vivekananda, just a name is enough to get motivated again and again!
    Yes, he said – Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached.

    My only question from couple of years is: Why Swamy Vivekananda did not participate in any Freedom Struggle? There were many youths at that time who had participated at that time. I am not blaming here, i do respect and he is like a guru to me…. Sorry if i have hurted anyone’s feelings.

    ನಿಮ್ಮ ಒಂದು-ಒಂದು article ನ ಓದಿದರೂ ಏನೋ ಒಂಥರಾ ರೋಮಾಂಚನ.
    ನನಗೆ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಲ್ಪ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಮಾತ್ರ ಗೊತ್ತಿದೆ. ಯಾವಾಗಲು ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು quotations ಆಗಿ ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾರಲ್ಲ ಅಂತ, ಆದರೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಅಗಾಧ ಅರ್ಥ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಇಂಥ ಒಂದು detailed article ಓದಿದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರವೇ.

    ನನಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇದೆ.
    ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಹೊರ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಜನ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯ ಏನೆಂದು, ಆದರೆ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸಲ ಏನು ಹೇಳಲಿ ಎಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಗದೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
    ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನನಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಹೇಳಿ.
